Partner Visa Subclass 820 & Partner Visa Subclass 801

Both the partner visa subclass 820 and the partner visa subclass 801 allow spouses and de facto partners of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live and work in Australia.

The partner visa subclass 820 is a temporary partner visa that permits visa holders to live and work in Australia for two years. This visa is the first step to getting a permanent partner visa subclass 801, the second stage to living permanently in Australia. Holders of the 820 visa can submit an application for a permanent partner subclass 801 during that two year period.
