General Skill Visa

Bluestone’s expert migration team provides advice and guidance on General Skilled Migration visa (GSM) applications. This type of visa is for skilled individuals who wish to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis. Bluestone’s services will include but not limited to assistance with Expressions of Interest, conducting a skill assessment, points test application.

The types of skilled visas available are as follows:

  • Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) – for individuals planning to settle in Australia permanently.
  • Skilled nominated visa (subclass 190) – for individuals planning to settle in Australia permanently but appointment must be by an Australian State or Territory.
  • The Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) – 5 year provisional visa which requires the application to live in Regional Australia and be nominated by an Australian State or Territory. This visa will eventually lead to the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191).
  • Temporary Graduate visa or post study work visa (subclass 485) – this is a temporary working visa applied by international students on completion of their degree, which must include a minimum 2 years of study.
  • Recognized graduate visa (subclass 476) – this is an 18-month work visa applicable only to those who have qualified as engineers.

New visas were introduced from 16 November 2019.

Skilled Independent Visa

The Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) is available to skilled overseas nationals via a point-based system. This visa gives, the skilled worker, the right to work and live in Australia permanently without requiring a sponsorship from a family member or nomination by an Australian State or Territory.

In order to apply for this stream, an applicant is required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and have a score of at least 65 points. This is a minimum requirement and only then, an invitation to apply for this visa will be issued from the Department of Home Affairs.

CRITERIA

SKILLS ASSESSMENT

It is the applicant’s duty to have their skills assessed by the relevant authority and provide evidence of it. Such evidence is essential component for the Points Based migration and Bluestone vast knowledge and professional relationship with various authorities will benefit the applicant in having their skills assessed.

RELEVANT OCCUPATION

The relevant occupation has been set out by the Department of Home Affairs which came into effect as at 18th April 2017. Applications which require a skill assessment of their skill for visa purposes, have to apply for such assessment with the relevant assessing authority in person

POINTS TABLE

The Department of Home Affairs has set a minimum score of 65 points at the time you are invited to apply for the visa in order to be eligible to apply for the Points Based Visas.

HEALTH AND CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

In addition, there are further requirements that an applicant would need to satisfy such as health and character ones. This requires the applicant and another family member who applies for this visa to undergo a medical examination and provide police certificates from each country you have lived in for 12 months in the last 10 years.

General Skilled Nominated Visa

The Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190) is available to skilled overseas nationals via a point-based system. This visa gives, the skilled worker, the right to work and live in Australia permanently who has been nominated by an Australian State or Territory.

CRITERIA

RELEVANT OCCUPATION

The relevant occupation list for subclass 190 differs from that of subclass 189. However, the process of having an assessment is same as such the applicant has to apply for an assessment with the relevant assessing authority
