CHILD VISA (subclass 101) (Offshore)

This visa allows a child who is outside of Australia to come and live in Australia on a permanent basis with their parents provided that the parent is an eligible sponsor to their child. This visa allows the child to study, travel, work and have access to Medicare in Australia. If the child is under the age of 18, the eligible parent can make an application on behalf of the child.

CRITERIA FOR THE SPONSOR

In order to be a suitable sponsor, one must have the following:

  • Australian citizen
  • Australian permanent resident or
  • eligible New Zealand citizen
  • must be aged 18 or more
  • be the child’s parent or
  • be their parent’s current spouse or de facto partner

CRITERIA FOR THE APPLICANT

  • be a dependent of a parent who is Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • must have an eligible sponsor
  • under 18 years old, or over 18 and under 25 years and studying full time, or over 18 years with a disability
  • have no spouse or de facto partner
  • meet the health and character requirements
  • have written consent to migrate to Australia
  • paid back your debt to the Australian Government (if any)
  • sign the Australian values statement

CHILD VISA (subclass 802) (Onshore)

This visa allows a child who is outside of Australia to come and live in Australia on a permanent basis with their parents provided that the parent is an eligible sponsor to their child. This visa allows the child to study, work and have access to Medicare in Australia. A Child, on this visa, can travel to and from Australia for 5 years and upon expiration of the 5-year term, would need to apply for and be granted an RRV in order to be allowed entry into Australia as a permanent resident or as an alternative may consider applying for Australian citizenship. If the child is under the age of 18, the eligible parent can make an application on behalf of the child.

CRITERIA FOR THE SPONSOR

In order to be a suitable sponsor, one must have the following:

  • Australian citizen
  • Australian permanent resident or
  • eligible New Zealand citizen
  • must be aged 18 or more
  • be the child’s parent or
  • be their parent’s current spouse or de facto partner
